INSTALLATION

1. This will install the Microsoft Windows Installer that is needed by subsequent steps.
    Windows Installer for 95/98/ME
    Windows Installer for NT/2000
    Windows XP SP2 or newer does not require the installer. Be sure Windows Updates are installed.

2. For the Oracle version of DataTrak (DT-II), the most current JRE should be used (Java 6)

3. If using a camera for check-in photos, additional software may be required (e.g. QuickCam 9.5)
    Consult the camera's manual or support website for more information, then install the correct driver/firmware.
    TWAIN is not needed for the Oracle version of DataTrak (DT-II).

4. Restart Windows (recommended).

5. Ensure Internet Explorer settings are configured.
    This includes Trusted Sites, Temporary Files, Phishing and Pop-up Blocking.
    Also check firewall and antivirus settings.

6. PDF viewers are recommended for DataTrak Reports.
    Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader are free. For a TIF viewer, see AlternaTIFF for contract images.
   
NOTE: Once installed, you might have to re-register your AlternaTIFF software if you have not used it for 3 months or more.


7. In order for your external devices (camera, receipt printer, card scanner, etc...) to work with DataTrak (DT-II), you will need Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework.

8. If you want all of your external devices to be installed all at once, follow the following steps:

    DataTrak Overall Install for .NET (with DirectShow type camera)
    We have experienced problems running the DirectShow camera software on Windows XP and Vista machines. So, if that's the case:
  1. Uninstall the previous library
  2. DataTrak Overall Install for .NET (with WIA type camera)
  3. NOTE: This install will
    ONLY
    work with Logitech cameras and
    ONLY
    in Windows XP.
    If you did one of the above installs, you can skip steps #9, #10, #11, #12, proceeding to step #13.
    If you choose to install each device separately, follow next steps for guidance: steps #9 (Camera), #10(Card/Driver License Reader), #11(Receipt Printer) and #12(Document Scanner).

9. PhotoCapture software is sometimes required to take photographs within DataTrak.
    DataTrak PhotoCapture Library for .NET (DirectShow)
    We have experienced problems running the above software on Windows XP and Vista machines. So, if that's the case:
  1. Uninstall the previous library
  2. DataTrak PhotoCapture Library for .NET (WIA)
  3. NOTE: This install will ONLY work with Logitech cameras and ONLY with Windows XP.
10. The following two libraries are needed for POS terminals.
    POS Card Reader
    POS station ID capture
    If you are going to run Card Reader as an applet, this all you need. However, if you would like to run it as ActiveX control, you will need to download the following package: DataTrak Card Reader Library for .NET

11. Run the following file to install Receipt Printer:
  1. This will work with both USB and LPT1 printers.
  2. NOTE: If you are using USB printer, make sure you name it
    "Receipt_Printer"
    (case sensetive, no quotes)
  3. DataTrak Receipt Printer Library for .NET
  4. The install will place an executble file on your desktop. If you run it, the printer should print test receipt.

12. Run the following file to install DataTrak Image Scanner:
  1. DataTrak Image Scanner Library for .NET (WIA)
  2. NOTE: This install will ONLY work with Windows XP.

13. This will install the certificate required to print receipts and scan credit cards.
    Click the Install Certificate button when prompted, and choose Yes when warned.

14. a. Create a Desktop shortcut (for All Users) pointing to the correct DataTrak URL.
    Right-click and "Copy Shortcut": ABC DataTrak Software. "Paste Shortcut" on the All Users Desktop.
    b. Save the shortcut icon to the local hard drive, and connect it with the newly-pasted shortcut: DataTrak.ico

15. If using Windows Vista:
    a. User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled for dtstation.properties to be saved to the local hard drive.
    Look in Control Panel > User Accounts > "Turn User Account Control On or Off". It should be turned back on after setup.
    b. Aero (AIP) color scheme interferes with the current interface. Change it in Control Panel > Personalization > "Appearance Settings".

16. Launch DataTrak (opens a new window). The first time the DataTrak IP address is accessed, Java will prompt to trust a certificate. Choose to Grant Always.
